SEEQIP Science Laboratory for the Ministry of Education

Project Overview

The proposed project involves the construction of a modern science laboratory at Palakumi Secondary School under the Ministry of Education's Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEEQIP). The project is intended to improve access to quality science education by providing a safe, functional, and well-equipped laboratory that meets the Ministry of Education's standards.

The scope of works includes, but is not limited to:

  • Site clearance and setting out.
  • Excavation and foundation works.
  • Reinforced concrete structural works.
  • Masonry wall construction.
  • Roofing and roof drainage works.
  • Doors, windows, and glazing.
  • Internal and external plastering.
  • Floor screeding and tiling.
  • Ceiling installation where specified.
  • Painting and decorative finishes.
  • Plumbing and drainage installations.
  • Electrical installations, including lighting, power outlets, and laboratory wiring.
  • Construction of laboratory benches, worktops, sinks, and storage cabinets.
  • External works, including paving, drainage, and site restoration.
  • Testing, commissioning, and handing over of the completed facility.

All works shall be executed in accordance with the approved architectural and structural drawings, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), Ministry of Education specifications, relevant Kenyan Building Codes, and applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations. The contractor shall provide all labour, materials, plant, equipment, transportation, supervision, and any other resources necessary to complete the project to the required quality standards and within the stipulated contract period.

The completed science laboratory will provide a conducive learning environment for practical science education, supporting the Government of Kenya's objective of enhancing the quality of secondary education through the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEEQIP).
